A middle school teacher in Netanya discovered that 8th-grade students had distributed an AI-generated pornographic video in which her face had been inserted.

The Israel Police stated that upon receiving the complaint, an investigation was opened at the Netanya police station.

The individuals who are suspected to be involved are several minors, approximately 14 years old, who used artificial intelligence tools and digital editing to create the footage. Afterward, they distributed it in WhatsApp groups and on social media.

One of the students is alleged to be behind the creation of the video itself, while others were partners in its distribution. The teacher was exposed to the footage only after it had already been circulating among students and had become widespread within a short time, at which point she turned to the police in an attempt to stop the continued distribution.

Within the framework of the investigation at the Netanya station, several of the minors suspected of involvement in the affair were summoned and questioned. From the initial findings, it emerged that among those involved, there was a division of roles: one person was behind the creation of the video, and others were responsible for its distribution.

At the conclusion of his interrogation, the primary suspect was released under restrictive conditions, and the police continue to act to map the scope of exposure and to locate additional persons involved.

Incident highlights harm of AI misuse

The incident is regarded with severity in the education system and in the police, as it illustrates the depth of the possible harm in the misuse of available artificial intelligence tools. In the coming days, investigators are expected to expand the collection of testimonies from within the school and to take additional steps to halt the continued distribution of the footage.

As the investigation progresses, the police will examine the severity of the acts and the nature of the involvement of each of the minors, including the possibility of offenses of invasion of privacy and distribution of offensive content. Parties familiar with the details note that alongside the criminal proceedings, disciplinary measures within the educational institution are also expected.
