The government will vote in its upcoming meeting on Sunday on changing the name of the war from "Swords of Iron War" to "War of Revival."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly wanted to change the name of the war since December 2023, according to Kan News.

He proposed names such as "Genesis War," "Gaza War," and "Simchat Torah War."

It was also reported that other ministers in the government criticized the name "Swords of Iron" and were not satisfied with it at the time.

Additionally, on October 7, 2024, the government held a special meeting during which Netanyahu proposed changing the name of the war from "Swords of Iron War" to "War of Revival." However, the hostage families protested the name change at the time and made it clear: "There is no revival without the return of all the hostages."

The announcement about changing the name of the war comes in the wake of IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir's statement regarding the establishment of committees to award decorations and commendations to soldiers and commanders who acted with bravery during the October 7 attack and throughout the fighting. The announcement was seen as a signal that, from the IDF's perspective, the main campaign has ended.

Zamir stresses military's commitment to return of hostages, support for those affected

At a memorial ceremony in the Gaza Envelope, Zamir emphasized the military's commitment to the return of the hostages and support for the bereaved families, the wounded, and the hostages who survived.

He noted that the IDF has learned from its mistakes, will not repeat past errors, and will strive for growth and hope.

The committees will be based on commanders' recommendations, soldiers' testimonies, and operational debriefs. Meanwhile, the findings of the Turjeman Committee, which examined the core investigations of the Hamas attack, will also be brought to discussion.
