An IDF soldier undergoing basic training was seriously wounded by gunfire during a shooting exercise at a training base in the Jordan Valley on Tuesday evening.
A preliminary inquiry raised suspicion that the soldier was struck by an accidentally discharged round. He received medical treatment at the scene immediately after the incident and was later evacuated to a hospital in serious condition. His family was notified.
Investigation by Military Police underway
Investigators from the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division were dispatched to the base following the unusual incident and opened an investigation into the circumstances.
The inquiry will examine how the shooting exercise was conducted, the handling of the weapon, and the circumstances that led to the accidental discharge.
Once the investigation is completed, its findings will be transferred to the Military Advocate General's Office for review.
Prior gunfire accidents
In December 2025, an IDF soldier was seriously injured as a result of gunfire at a military base in northern Israel. The soldier was taken to the hospital for medical treatment but died of his wounds.
About two months earlier, Yosef Haim Rabuch, an IDF soldier who had gone on leave, was killed in his home in Kiryat Arba by a bullet fired by his friend, a Border Police officer.
