The former lead singer of Israeli boy band HFive nearly drowned Saturday after saving his niece.

Pop star Amir Fay Guttman was declared dead Sunday, a day after he nearly drowned.On Saturday, Guttman held a party to celebrate a year since he found out he had been misdiagnosed with lymphoma, after he underwent months of chemotherapy. The party was at a beach without a lifeguard, and he entered the sea with his five-year-old niece and a family friend, when a wave overcame them. Surfers who happened to be nearby saved the niece and friend, but Guttman was only found later, and brought to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa after 50 minutes with no pulse.Guttman, 41, was the former lead singer of Israeli boy band HFive – pronounced “high five” – which had its heyday in 1999-2000, and he became a successful solo artist.Guttman was also filming a new season of the Israeli reality show Connected, in which celebrities film their own lives.The singer was also a gay rights activist.Guttman’s heart was still beating on Sunday afternoon, and he was sedated and on a respirator, but hospital representatives said there was nothing else to do to improve his situation and he had no chance to survive.The singer left behind a husband and a son.
