The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have both cracked the top 100 on the Academic Ranking of World Universities this year.
The index, known as the Shanghai Ranking, grades and prioritizes universities around the globe based on a variety of factors, including Nobel Prize winners, published research and more.
Both the Technion and the Hebrew University rose compared with their ranking on the list last year. This year the Technion came in 77th overall, compared with 93rd last year. The Hebrew University was ranked at 95, returning to the top 100 after just missing out last year.
The Technion has remained in the top 100 for the past seven years, steadily rising from its place in the 200-300 range when the list was first published in 2003. Its highest ranking came in 2016, when it placed 69th.
This year, the Weizmann Institute of Science was listed in the 101-150 rank, while Tel Aviv University was ranked in the 151-200 range and Ben-Gurion University came in the 401-500 rankings.
“The Technion’s appearance in the top 100 universities in the world for seven straight years is the result of hard work and dedication of the Technion’s management, faculty members and employees,” said university president Peretz Lavie. “This ranking is an exciting stamp of international recognition of the Technion’s excellence.”
