Israeli police in the West Bank on Friday pulled over a speeding vehicle driven by a Palestinian couple on their way to their exchange vows of matrimony.
Police say that the groom was speeding on Route 60 as he was driving 130 kilometers per hour toward Gush Etzion Junction.
The driver, 22, a resident of the West Bank village of Zurif, was found not to have a driver’s license. He was given a fine and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He was also summoned to the West Bank traffic police office for further processing.
“We are sorry about the fact that people, on their day of celebration, drive irresponsibly while flagrantly ignoring the law,” said Eyal Atiya, the acting head of the West Bank traffic police. “The traffic police will enforce the law vigorously in hopes of preserving the lives of those using the highways.”
