There are no longer any win-less teams in the BSL after Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Rishon Lezion picked up their first victories of the season on Monday night.
After returning from its NBA tour and losing by 29 points to Maccabi Ashdod in its first BSL game last week, last season’s runner-up, Maccabi Haifa, beat Ironi Ness Ziona 89-85 in overtime.
Haifa looked to be heading to another defeat when Golan Got gave Ness Ziona the lead with 1.2 seconds to play in regulation.
However, Haifa’s Brandon Bowman forced an extra five minutes with a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer and the hosts clinched the win in overtime.
Bowman ended the game with 30 points, with Angel Rodriguez adding 20 points.
Jaron Johnson scored 21 points for Ness Ziona, which fell to 1-2.
Maccabi Rishon Lezion registered its first victory by defeating Maccabi Ashdod 94-68. Murphy Holloway led five Rishon players in double figures with 20 points and nine rebounds. Rishon moved to 1-1 after losing its only previous game to Hapoel Jerusalem. Alex Chubrevich had 14 points for Ashdod, which fell to 1-2.
Elsewhere Monday, Ironi Nahariya improved to 2-1 with an 86-72 at Hapoel Eilat. An 11-0 run in the first quarter gave Nahariya a 14-point gap (20-6) and the visitors never lost control.
Corey Webster and Denzel Livingston had 21 points each for Nahariya, with Alex Young adding 20 points. Demetrius Treadwell netted 16 points for Eilat, which fell to 1-2.
