12 border police in South charged with desertion

Twelve border policemen in the South have deserted their unit due to difficult living conditions, Army Radio reported on Sunday. After deserting last Thursday from the "Shikma" base, the soldiers made their way to Eilat. Their absence was discovered about four hours later during a personnel check on the base. The commander of the company then went to Eilat to find the soldiers and bring them back. Shortly thereafter, Border Police commander, Hasin Pars, arrived at the base to further understand the situation. After meeting with the deserters, three soldiers were sentenced to jail time. The rest were still waiting for their punishments.
