585 illegal foreign workers deported in 2005

Immigration police have deported 585 illegal foreign workers from Israel so far in 2005. Of those deported, 116 were women who were brought for the sex trade in Israel. Fewer than half of those ended up in battered women's shelters, the others were held by immigration police, Israel Radio reported. These statistics were announced Wednesday when immigration officials appeared before the Knesset committee dealing with the problem.
