AHAVA to run Independence Day hot line

Animal welfare association, AHAVA, will operate a special help-line over the Independence Day holiday to help dog owners find their pets that may have been spooked by the noise of fireworks. "Every Independence Day thousands of dogs are lost after being frightened by the noise of fireworks," said AHAVA spokeswoman Tamara More, adding that the hot line will help owners locate their pets. The organization also calls on volunteers to help collect food scraps, especially meat, for the dogs and cats cared for in the organization's shelter. AHAVA incurred heavy debts following its massive campaign to rescue abandoned dogs and cats during the Second Lebanon War this past summer. The organization appeals: "If you are looking for a lost dog or wish to donate food, please contact AHAVA on Monday night, Independence Day Eve, and all of the following day at (09) 958-8833.
