Veteran journalist Nahum Barnea, who is currently the senior political correspondent for Yediot Aharonot, will receive the Israel Prize for Journalism on Independence Day, Education Minister Yuli Tamir announced on Monday.
Barnea was born in Petah Tikva in 1944. It is said of him that by the time he was in second grade, he would read over each and every newspaper, every day. He started his career working for the Hebrew University's student magazine, and later moved to the Histadrut Labor Federation's Davar daily.
The award panel said that "because of his determination, because of the depth of his insights, because of his talented writing, his courage and his ability to encapsulate Israeliness in his special way, the panel of judges has decided to award him the Israel Prize for Journalism for 2007."
