A train crashed into a bulldozer in Beit Shemesh Sunday, lightly injuring 31 passengers, police and rescue officials said.
The early morning accident took place after the bulldozer got stuck on the train tracks about 2 km before the Beit Shemesh train station.
The driver of the bulldozer had attempted to cross the rail tracks after the highway barrier had already started to descend.
An Israel Railways spotter that was on location reported the incident, but his warning was not in time to prevent the accident due to the close proximity between the bulldozer's crossing and the train's arrival.
The injured passengers were taken to various Jerusalem hospitals.
A police investigation of the accident was underway.
