The Knesset's Ministerial Committee on Legislation authorized a bill Monday which would seriously limit the advertisement of alcoholic beverages.
If approved by the Knesset plenum, advertisements for alcoholic drinks would be barred from television, radio, public transportation and some print media. The bill would also set strict rules as to what commercials could contain, forbidding the use of celebrities or people under 40 in advertisements.
The restrictions proposed by the bill are similar to those imposed on cigarette advertising. In fact, the bill proposes that, as with cigarettes, a warning should be attached to drink bottles detailing the dangers of their consumption.
