A 14-year-old boy was lightly injured Monday night by a stray bullet fired from an IDF firing range near Nitzanim beach, the army reported on Tuesday. His father, who was with the boy, said that he noticed his son fall and then realized he had been shot. The father rushed his son to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon and reported the incident to police. Training in the firing range was halted after the commanders at the range received a report about the injured child. An examination conducted by Col. Eldad Peled found that the father and child were 500 meters inside the clearly marked firing range area. The IDF sent its condolences and said it would examine stricter security measures in order to ensure such incidents did not reoccur.
