Demonstrators urge manslaughter charges for cop

Several dozen Jerusalem Arabs and left-wing Israelis protested Sunday outside a Jerusalem court calling for the arrest and immediate indictment of a border police officer who shot dead an east Jerusalem man during a routine arrest that turned violent last week. The demonstrators, who also held a similar protest in central Jerusalem, urged the justice ministry to indict the border police officer on charges of manslaughter, and to keep him in detention through the duration of his trial. The border policeman who was found by the justice ministry's police investigation department to have shot the man without justification has been placed under house arrest pending a hearing ahead of his expected indictment.
