Histadrut Labor Federation Chairman Ofer Eini rejected on Wednesday evening an offer by Treasury wage supervisor Eli Cohen to raise civil servants' salaries by 0.2 percent, with an additional 0.1% raise for every year completed without a strike.
After the meeting, Eini instructed union heads to prepare for a general strike beginning next week. According to Army Radio, Eini was sticking to his demand of an immediate 10% raise for civil servants.
