A father and son were trapped on Wednesday in a four-meter-deep pit in the front yard of their house in Kiryat Yam.
The 50-year-old father was working to fix some scaffolding that was put up for renovation work on the house.
In order to strengthen the scaffolding the father dug a four-meter hole into which the poles were inserted.
The scaffolding collapsed, trapping the man inside the hole that he had dug. The man's 21-year-old son rushed to his aid but he also fell into the pit, trapping himself.
Police, firemen and paramedics rushed to the scene and were trying to dig the pair out of the ditch by hand amid fears of injuring them.
