Fire crews managed to pull out a 42-year old man who had fallen into a hole that collapsed while he was digging it in Kiryat Yam. He was evacuated to hospital in serious condition.
Rescue workers had already extricated his son after he had fallen in while trying to help his father out the hole. They freed him by digging a hole next to the one the father had burrowed, a fire service spokesman said, adding that the son was lightly injured.
The father dug the hole in his garden in order to lay down concrete for construction purposes, the spokesman said.
