Fayad, Erekat reiterate: Palestinians won't acknowledge Israel's Jewishness

The Palestinians will not acknowledge Israel's Jewish identity, Palestinian Prime Minister Salaam Fayad was quoted by Israel Radio as saying, Wednesday. Fayad brushed aside Israel's demand that such acknowledgment would be Israel's condition to resume negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. Negotiator Saeb Erekat echoed Fayad in an interview with pan-Arab satellite station Al Arabiya. "Israel can define itself however it sees fit; and if it wishes to call itself a Jewish state - so be it. But the Palestinians will never acknowledge Israel's Jewish identity," Erekat said.
