Fischer: Financial prosperity won't last if poverty isn't addressed

"Israel's financial prosperity will not last if the country's socio-economic gaps are not addressed," Army Radio quoted Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer as saying Tuesday. Fischer said that many Israeli citizens live in substandard conditions, particularly in the Arab and ultra-orthodox sectors of the population. "An effort must be made soon to end discrimination towards minority groups in the population in order to reduce poverty," he said.
