GPO reacts to Ruah Shaked controversy

The Government Press Office released a statement Wednesday night in reaction to the recent controversy over the Channel 1 documentary aired last week, The Spirit of Shaked, depicting a 1967 battle between IDF soldiers and Egyptian soldiers during which 250 Egyptians were killed. "Israel views with grave concern the campaign to slander and incite against Israel in the Egyptian Parliament and media. Equally serious are the personal verbal attacks and physical threats against Israel's ambassador to Egypt," read the statement. "It must be remembered that this was a bloody war that cost many lives on both sides." On Sunday Finance Minister Avraham Hirschson cancelled a trip to Egypt after Egyptian Parliament members criticized Israel ambassador to Cairo, Shalom Cohen.
