Haifa U. returns donation by ex-'Post' publisher

The University of Haifa announced on Monday that it has returned a $75,000 (€56,300) donation that it received in 2002 from the former deputy of accused corporate swindler Conrad Black because of his conviction on fraud charges. The money received from David Radler was returned to The Jerusalem Post, which Radler previously published, the university said. The university awarded Radler an honorary doctorate in 2002. It has no procedures in place for stripping recipients of honorary titles because matters of this sort have not come up in the past, spokesman Amir Gilat said. "But the fact that it returned the money testifies to its attitude toward the matter of his honorary title," Gilat said. Some of the money was reportedly misappropriated from the Post's charity funds.
