Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson said Monday that in the upcoming days he would compensate all workers in Northern Israel who have been unable to work due to the incessant barrages of Katyusha rockets.
Nevertheless, Finance Ministry officials expressed doubt about the sweeping promises of compensation.
Hirchson instructed the Finance Ministry to pay public sector employees in Northern Israel an advance on their August salaries. He claimed that a solution would be soon found that would ensure that other workers in the North who had been forced to stay away from the workplace also received their wages.
Israel Radio reported that Hirchson had set up a committee with Workers Union representatives that would convene for an emergency meeting in the next few days.
