IAA: B-G tower communications at risk

The Israel Airports Authority warned on Friday that pirate radio stations and the IDF's wireless communications, which interfere with the control tower at Ben-Gurion International Airport, could cause an accident, Israel Radio reported. The IAA said that on Thursday, a Continental Airlines pilot lost contact with the air traffic controllers minutes before the plane was due to land, forcing the pilot to bring the plane down without final authorization from the tower. Arie Gilad, the IAA's Deputy Director-General of Operations, said that the Communications Ministry was not enforcing the law prohibiting pirate radio stations.
