IBA management committee declares state of emergency

The Israel Broadcasting Authority's management committee on Monday declared a state of emergency due to a lack of funds. It called upon the IBA administration to prepare an efficiency plan together with union representatives in an effort to control expenses. It asked that the plan be ready by July. The committee called upon senior IBA employees on personal contracts to forfeit 5 percent of their salaries so that the onus of cutbacks in overtime pay would not be borne solely by low-level employees. It ordered the administration not to impose overtime cutbacks on employees with a gross monthly salary less than NIS 6,000. The committee said the cutbacks should not be made at the expense of public broadcasting. IBA finance committee member Yaela Granot suggested that members of the management committee and plenum give up 5% of the payment they receive for attending meetings.
