'IDF is destroying Palestinian economy'

B'Tselem reports over 1,800 businesses in Hebron have shut down.

More than 1,000 apartments have been abandoned and over 1,800 businesses owned by Palestinians in central Hebron have shut down in the past seven years, according to a report by B'Tselem organization and the Association for Civil Rights in Israel. According to the report, IDF activity is limiting trading near settlers' homes in the city and blocking passage for Palestinian cars, thus destroying the Palestinian economy in the city. The Jewish settlement claimed however that the limitations on travel mainly apply only to Jews who are not allowed into 97% of the city. The IDF said in response that the report does not reflect the complex reality in Hebron and that the army only works to protect lives and not out of caprice.
