IDF soldier shot in head wakes up

Sniper attacked patrol following jeep accident near Jenin on Monday.

The IDF soldier who was shot in the head Monday during a clash with Palestinian gunmen in the West Bank town of Kabatiya regained consciousness Tuesday morning at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, and was listed in moderate to serious condition. The soldier, from the Lavi Battalion, wounded during a routine arrest raid in the town, south of Jenin. The Palestinians opened fire in a well-planned ambush at the soldiers after a Humvee vehicle, used by the troops, accidentally overturned. No one was injured in the accident. A sniper opened fire at the military force and hit the soldier. Another soldier was lightly wounded during the gun clashes. The cause of the jeep accident was unknown. IDF patrols operate regularly in Jenin, and the West Bank city is the frequent site of clashes between soldiers and Palestinians. Overnight Sunday, Palestinians threw several bombs at IDF troops operating in the area. No casualties were reported in the incident. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops arrested a Palestinian woman west of Bethlehem who approached them in possession of a knife. The woman told her interrogators that she intended to attack the soldiers.
