Initial war probe: Gov't failed to protect Israel

An initial report investigating the war in Lebanon submitted to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Tuesday night by a subcommittee headed by Labor MK Ami Ayalon stated that the government failed to protect Israel's citizens. The committee examining the preparation of the home front during emergencies said that the government did not understand the fact that Israel was facing a new security situation. The report pointed out that no formal meeting specifically examining a possible evacuation of northern residents was held, and that the government had not adhered to Israel's emergency protocol.
