Jerusalem research institute nets $4.5m. donation

A Jerusalem research institute has received a $4.5 million donation from an American Jewish entrepreneur and casino magnate. The gift by Sheldon and Dr. Miriam Adelson to Jerusalem's Shalem Center comes half a year after Adelson, who is listed as the 14th richest person in the world and the third-wealthiest American, pledged a donation of $25 million to Yad Vashem. The Nevada-based casino magnate is chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. The newly named Adelson Institute for Strategic Studies at the Shalem Center is headed by the former cabinet minister and famed prisoner of Zion Natan Sharansky.
