The Knesset House Committee on Tuesday approved a move to begin the process of impeaching President Moshe Katsav, less than a week after Katsav was granted temporary suspension.
The committee decided that the discussion of a petition signed by 30 Knesset members for the Katsav's impeachment would take place no more than two weeks after the petition was submitted to the president.
Katsav has been under investigation since the summer for alleged sexual crimes against several women who used to work in his office. While suspended, he retains presidential immunity and cannot be indicted.
The House Committee's decision was expected to go before the Knesset plenum for a vote on Tuesday evening.
