Labor MK Tamir insists on finance portfolio

Labor MK Yuli Tamir reiterated Thursday morning her party's insistence on the finance portfolio, going so far as to intimate that if Labor were not given the Treasury, it might choose to remain outside the coalition. "We've come to make social change," Tamir told Army Radio. "And the place to do that is first of all in the Finance Ministry." When asked if Labor's joining the coalition was in fact a necessity, Tamir said that Prime Minister-elect Ehud Olmert's options for a coalition were "limited." "Olmert knows that if he wants a stable government, he needs us," Tamir stated. "Joining forces with Yisrael Beitenu won't benefit him or the other parties."
