Livnat demands Katsav impeachment, not suspension

MK Limor Livnat said Thursday morning that she would not support a request by President Moshe Katsav for temporary suspension until the proceedings against him were complete, calling instead for Katsav's impeachment. In an interview with Israel Radio, Livnat said that "the meaning of such a vote [in the Knesset] is approval for him to continue serving as president," a position she said he had no right to hold, as there were four women accusing him of serious sexual crimes. She urged the Knesset to vote against the request, saying that if Katsav were not fired from his post, it would be "a disgrace for the State of Israel."
