MKs give buttons to mark children killed in Shoah

Labor MK Michael Melchior mobilized his fellow Knesset members to donate buttons to a student project that will commemorate the children killed in the Holocaust. Seventh and eighth grade students from the "Oseh Hail" school in Efrat came up with the idea to collect 1.5 million buttons and create a memorial with them. They turned to Melchior, head of the Education Committee, to assist them. Thus far, 70,000 buttons have been collected. Melchior gave the buttons to the students Wednesday during a meeting of the committee. MKs Yuli Tamir, Colette Avital, Sarah Merom-Shilav, Amira Dotan, Orit Noked, Yitzhak Ziv, Yossi Beilin, Alex Miller, Yitzhak Galanti and others have contributed buttons to the project. Melchior said he hoped more MKs would aid in the quest soon. The project was launched to coincide with International Holocaust Memorial Day on January 29th.
