Mofaz and Rice hold last minute meeting on Rafah

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz held an early Tuesday morning meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in a last minute bid to hammer out an agreement on the Rafah crossing. Mofaz, who is responsible for the security aspects of the crossings from the Gaza Strip to Egypt, is expected to push for surveillance guarantees to allay Israeli concerns over the entry of terrorists into the Gaza Strip. Rice postponed her departure Monday night to work out negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. Defense sources said the meeting was taking place Tuesday morning in Jerusalem but had no further details.
