Negev parents want teacher strike over

Say Kassams disrupt routine enough, claim kids safer in protected schools.

Parents in Sderot and the towns in the Gaza periphery appealed to high school teachers to discontinue their strike in the area, Army Radio reported. The parents claimed that Kassam rockets were already disrupting the daily school routine, and that the additional teacher sanctions were harming the children.
  • Student strike continues after TA protest Doron Solomon, head of the parents' committee at the Sha'ar Hanegev high school, said that it was "preferable for the students to stay in schools, since they're protected, unlike most homes in the Gaza periphery." High school teachers resumed their strike in the North and South earlier in the morning, as part of their ongoing protest against delays in salary and pension agreements. Meanwhile, university students continued their strike on Thursday, which has been in effect for over two weeks in protest of the Shochat Committee's proposed reforms, following a Wednesday night demonstration in Tel Aviv that turned violent. At least three people were lightly injured in clashes with police, and seven of the protesters were arrested. Six of the detainees were released on bail on Thursday morning, with the seventh expected to be freed on parole. MK Arye Eldad (NU/NRP) demanded an immediate investigation into the behavior of the policemen who were involved in the fighting, and called for violent police officers to be removed from the force.
