Acting Finance Minister Ehud Olmert
denied a media report Sunday that claimed there would be a cut in the Defense Ministry's budget, namely in the salaries of career army personnel. He stated that the decision to adhere to the budget's limits was reached before the budget was submitted.
In a Channel 1 interview, Olmert noted that there might be cuts across the entire budget, and not exclusively from the Ministry of Defense, as reported by Yediot Aharonot
on Sunday. "We are not fighting against the Ministry of Defense," the acting finance minister insisted.
In response to questions concerning sources for social funding, he mentioned that all options and sources would be discussed.
Regarding his official nomination as finance minister, Olmert assessed that he would be voted into that position by the government. He noted that the Likud rebels announced that they would not confront the government, although he would not predict how former finance minister Binyamin Netanyahu
