Defense Minister Amir Peretz concluded his consultations over choosing a new chief of staff on Sunday evening.
He will recommend to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Monday that the position go to Maj.-Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
Peretz hoped the decision would be implemented by the end of the week.
