PM reiterates refusal to negotiate with kidnappers

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday ruled out negotiations with the captors of IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit and said the army would strike all terrorists involved in the abduction. "We will strike all terror elements and all those who strike the state of Israel will not be immune," Olmert told the Negev conference in Beersheba. Olmert told the conference that he had instructed the army to continue with a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip aimed at freeing Shalit. The soldiers' captors have demanded that Israel release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, a condition Israel rules out. Egypt has been trying to mediate a solution.
