Hadassah Hospital officials announced that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon would undergo a tracheostomy on Sunday night to help wean him off a respirator that has been helping him breathe since he suffered a massive stroke on January 4.
Earlier in the day, officials reiterated that the prime minister remained in stable, but critical, condition.
Sharon has still not emerged from his coma.
