Former Sderot mayor Eli Moyal should be indicted for illegally awarding tenders to contractors whom he was acquainted with during his time in office, the police's National Fraud Unit recommended on Sunday.
The recommendations follow a wide-ranging police investigation into suspicions of irregularities within the Sderot Municipality, during which over 100 witnesses and suspects were interrogated by police.
Moyal should be indicted for criminal offenses involving fraud, violation of public trust, receiving goods fraudulently, and other offenses, police said.
Other high-ranking municipality employees, and suspects who were not employed by the municipality, should also be tried for various offenses, the National Fraud Unit added.
Police have transferred the case material to Central District prosecutors, who will take a decision on whether to serve Moyal with an indictment.
