Rally for foreign workers’ children

Hundreds gather in Tel Aviv, government to decide issue next week.

Tel Aviv rally “Foreign workers children are Israelis”
Hundreds rallied Tuesday evening at the plaza outside Tel Aviv Museum calling on the government to grant permanent residency to the children of foreign workers in Israel. The government is set to decide the fate of the children next week.
The rally was organized by the National Union of Israeli Students, “Israeli Children” –an association formed to prevent the deportation of foreign workers’ children and fight for them to be granted permanent residency and other rights and UNICEF Israel.

Orly Vilnai Federbush and Guy Meroz moderated the event, Shlomo Gronich, Keren Peles and Miri Mesika were among the performers. Minority Affairs Minister Avishay Braverman, MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima), MK Nitzan Horovitz (Meretz) and MK Dov Henin (Hadash) were among the speakers.
Braverman called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to grant the children of foreign workers in Israel permanent resident status and free them from the fear of deportation.
Student Union Chairman Boaz Toporovsky said “there is no reason in the world why the migrants’ children should pay the price for the authorities’ past policy missteps, through no fault of their own. We call on the government of Israel to quickly formulate a humane solution for these children’s future and to integrate them as equal citizens into our society.”
