Ramle: Pedestrian hit by train, loses both legs

A man was hit by a train on Wednesday at the entrance to Ramle, on Highway 44. Both of his legs were amputated as a result of the accident and his condition was described as serious and unstable. The man, a Rishon Lezion resident in his thirties, was evacuated to Assaf Harofeh Hospital near Petah Tikva. An Israel Rails security guard at the scene said that the man had seemed incoherent, as if he were under the influence of drugs, and that he tried to warn him not to cross the train tracks when he saw the train was coming, but that the man ignored his pleads. The Ramle police chief arrived at the scene of the accident, together with a large amount of police forces. Transportation inspectors were investigating the event.
