The Finance Ministry, the Industry, Trade, and Labor Ministry, the Histadrut Labor Federation, and various economic organizations reached a compensation agreement Monday evening for employers and employees in Gaza-belt communities. According to the agreement, employees who missed work in the second half of May will receive a full salary, Army Radio reported. Agreement was also reached on expedited payment of compensation due, stipulating that advances amounting to 50 percent of business owners' profits from the same period last year or NIS 2 million would be paid out within 14 days of the claim's submission. In unusual circumstances, another 14 days will be allotted for the remission of funds. After the initial period, property tax officials will have 90 days in which to complete their assessment of the owners' claims and determine whether the remaining sum will be paid, or whether the owner will have to return some of the payment received. Damage will be assessed according to loss of profit or direct losses to business owners as a result of the security threat, including expenses intended to minimize damage or allow businesses to continue operating.
