Prime Minister Ariel Sharon contacted OC Manpower Maj.-Gen. Elazar Stern Sunday morning to tell him that he viewed the attack on Stern at the Western Wall two days ago with the utmost severity.
Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said that the attack on Stern represented an attack on all IDF forces.
Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, rabbi of the Western Wall, said the attack constituted a desecration of both God and the Sabbath.
He noted that many of those praying at the time of the incident immediately rushed to protect Stern, Israel Radio reported.
