The soldier suspected of involvement in a sex scandal at a southern IAF base in which dozens of soldiers allegedly had sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl on the base, was released by military prosecution on Sunday.
An army judge had approved the extension of the soldier's remand until Sunday for the purpose of conducting the investigation. In an IDF statement, the army promised that the investigation would be carried out to completion.
The soldier denied his involvement in the affair.
In the case, which has been called the worst sex scandal in IDF history, some 30 soldiers, a noncommissioned officer and civilians are suspected of having illegal sexual relations with the daughter of a career air force man living on the base.
According to a high-ranking IAF officer, the soldiers confessed to having sex with her, but claimed that she told them she was 16, the legal age for consensual sex. This claim was corroborated by the girl herself, who has been referred to welfare services and is receiving psychological treatment.
Some 10 days ago, OC Air Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Eliezer Shkedy accepted responsibility for investigating what he called the "appalling and extremely disturbing" case, and promised that "whoever is found to have acted immorally will be punished in a determined, absolute and uncompromising manner, without regard for his rank or position."
