Spitzer announces resignation will take effect March 17

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer announced Wednesday afternoon that his resignation from office would take effect on March 17.
Spitzer said that the date had been selected at the request of Lieutenant-Governor David Paterson, who will take over the reigns of the governorship from Spitzer.
