Students hold strike in Tel Aviv University

The Student Union held a strike in Tel Aviv University and 10 colleges throughout the country on Wednesday. The strike was meant to protest plans to raise tuition and the Student Union threatened that it might instruct students to continue striking after Pessah in all higher education institutions in the country. Students were striking against the appointment of Dr. Liora Meridor as the head of a committee meant to examine whether to change tuition rates. They claimed Meridor supported raising tuition costs and demanded she be replaced, even though students unions signed an agreement with Education Minister Yuli Tamir in which they initially agreed to Meridor's appointment.
