A 59-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for the murder of a 76-year-old woman in her home in Rehovot on Friday.Rahel Schneider was killed in her home in Rehovot on Friday evening, in what may have been a robbery gone wrong.The suspect's remand was extended by five days by a court on Saturday evening.The victim was found dead by emergency officials after her son called the police. Magen David Adom paramedics said they found the woman lying on her bed without a pulse.Schneider’s son, who works as a security guard, told police he returned home from a shift and found his mother dead in the apartment.Schneider also had two daughters, who gave statements to police on Friday.The Central Police District’s Central Unit, which handles serious violent crimes, took charge of the investigation. A court-imposed media ban on all details of the investigation was obtained by police on Friday night. Stunned neighbors gathered around the building’s entrance on Rehov Rojinski.The victim’s large white husky dog stood near police officers.“I’m in shock. I didn’t hear or see anything,” one neighbor said.Avia Zemertov, 17, who lives in the building, said her own apartment was targeted by thieves last month. “Someone broke into our home and stole jewellery,” Zemertov said. “It’s scary. I used to see her [Schneider] every day. She was a very fragile lady, always smiling, always polite,” Zemertov added, holding back tears.“I can’t believe this happened.When someone first said there was a murder in our building I thought he was joking,” Zemertov said.Police forensic officers began collecting samples, and a mobile forensics unit arrived outside the apartment on Friday evening.
