IDF troops shot and lightly wounded an armed man who infiltrated into the southern Golan Height from Syria Wednesday overnight.
Soldiers patrolling the area identified the man approaching the border fence, which is several meters south of the international border. This meant that the man was already inside Israeli territory.
The troops called on the man to halt, a command he did not obey. They then fired at his legs, lightly wounding him. He was evacuated to hospital in Tiberius for treatment.
He will later be taken for interrogation.
According to an Army Radio report, security forces believed the man had not intended to carry out an attack, and his apparent attempt to cross the border was probably part of smuggling efforts or other criminal activity.
