Tannenbaum's military rank downgraded to private

A special IDF commission downgraded former IDF colonel Elhanan Tannenbaum's military rank to 'private' for criminal activity he had confessed to committing. Tannenbaum, who was abducted by Hizbullah and released as part of a prisoner exchange deal in January 2004, admitted in December that, prompted by financial difficulties, he had entered Lebanon to conduct a drug deal. The commission adopted the stance of chief IDF prosecutor Brig.-Gen. Avi Mendelblatt, who demanded that Tannenbaum's rank be revoked.
